Man Who Sued Police For Brutality Arrested Again
A 24-year-old Woodinville man who received $10,000 from the city in 2008 to settle a police brutality claim was arrested again over the weekend after, police say, he threatened to kill someone near the Pike Place Market.
According to police, Bradley Nebinger was arrested early Sunday morning after police found him trying to break down the front gate of an apartment building in the 1400 block of Western Avenue.
Nebinger allegedly made threats to kill someone in the building and, when police arrived, was yelling at a private security officer. Police say Nebinger appeared intoxicated and fought with officers when they tried to arrest him.
The last time Seattle police arrested Nebinger, he ended up filing a claim against the city and King County, claiming he had been assaulted by police and jail guards.
In 2006—when Nebinger was just 20 years old—police picked Nebinger up at a Downtown bar for harassment. Nebinger claimed police roughed him up on the way to jail. Police said Nebinger resisted arrest.
At the King County Jail, court records say Nebinger called a guard a "faggot" and was punched in the face.
In the end, King County paid $20,000 to settle Nebinger's claim, while SPD paid $10,000—$5,000 to Nebinger, and another $5,000 to cover his attorney fees.
Relatively small settlements like the one Nebinger received are sometimes referred to as a "nusiance payoffs" by attorneys who handle suits against the department.
