Man Stabbed In Possible Anti-Gay Attack in Eastlake

By Jonah Spangenthal-Lee February 18, 2010

A man was stabbed and robbed in Eastlake last week in what police believe may have been an anti-gay attack.

The report, just released today, says the man was walking south on Eastlake Ave E near Lakeview Blvd E at about 8:00 p.m. when a group of men approached him. The man, who was on his phone, heard one of the suspects say "Hey faggot, give me your wallet." The man turned around and confronted the suspects, who pushed him to the ground. When the man tried to get up, one of the suspects stabbed him in the arm.

The suspects—described in the report as three black men in their 20s-30s wearing black hoodies—stole the man's wallet and groceries and fled.

The victim was taken to the hospital and released later that day.

According to the report, the victim told police that aside from one of the suspects' initial remark, "there was no other mention by the suspects of his orientation." Nevertheless, police are investigating the incident as an anti-homosexual bias crime.
