Woman Robbed, Sexually Assaulted On Aurora

By Jonah Spangenthal-Lee January 6, 2010

Seattle police are investigating a brutal sexual assault and robbery in North Seattle.

According to a police report, at about 9:30 p.m. on December 30th, a woman was walking home from a grocery store on 103rd and Aurora. As the woman crossed N 100th Street, a man ran up to her, grabbed her by the neck and dragged her into a nearby alley.

The man threw the woman to the ground, kicked her, grabbed her by the head, and slammed her into the pavement, the report says. The woman became dizzy, and heard the man say "stay fucking silent or this will get worse." The man tried to take of the woman's shirt off, the report says, and then "placed his hands underneath [her] pants and sexually assaulted her."

At some point during the assault, a bystander walked by and scared the man off. Before he fled, the man grabbed $10 out of the woman's pocket. The bystander did not stop to help the woman, and kept on walking.

The report says the woman limped home and was taken to the hospital by her roommates. The report says the attack left the woman with several torn ligaments in her foot, cuts on her body, bruises on her head and ribs, blood clots in her eyes, and a concussion.

The suspect is described in the report as "a dark skinned black male in his late 20's to early 30's...5'11 to 6'0 tall, 220 lbs [with] unshaven facial hair which formed a messy beard." The report says the manw as wearing a red beanie, black raincoat, black sweatpants, and possibly boots. The man also apparently "smelled like urine."

Police identified a possible suspect in the assault, but the report does not indicate whether police have contacted him. We'll follow up when we get more information.
