Two Brawls at Youth Service Center

By Jonah Spangenthal-Lee January 11, 2010

Seattle Police, King County Sheriff's deputies, and US Marshals had their hands full at the juvenile courthouse last week after several fights broke out around the courthouse.

In one incident, which a police report indicates was gang-related, two teens got into a brawl in the lobby of the Youth Service Center just before 11:00 a.m. on January 5th.

The confrontation apparently started after one teen said something to another boy's girlfriend. During the melee, a YSC employee was injured when she was knocked to the ground. Police arrested three teens following the incident. One of them apparently struggled with officers when they tried to take him in to custody.

About an hour earlier, police also broke up a fight outside the courthouse. According to a police report, one teen was walking out of the courthouse when another boy ran up behind him and "started swinging."

Police arrested the boy who started the fight, who told police the victim in the assault had broken his jaw in a fight a year earlier, and that this assault was retaliation.
