The Third Man: Witness to Last Night's Double Homicide Was Shot in October Robbery
Three suspects in a deadly home invasion robbery in Northgate were able to elude SPD officers as they fled through the neighborhood last night last night, but police may have an idea about who the gunmen are.
Police have confirmed that a third man in the home during the robbery-tuned-double-homicide—who it appears was uninjured—was able to provide police with a description of the gunmen.
This morning, SPD spokesman Mark Jamieson also confirmed to that the man who survived last night's incident is known to police, as he was apparently also the victim in an October robbery, not far from the scene of last night's shooting.
In the October 27th incident, police were called to Swedish Hospital in Ballard after a man—who police say is the witness to last night's shooting—was brought to the hospital, suffering from several gunshot wounds.
The man told police he was walking to a gas station on Aurora Ave N and N Northgate Way at about 2:15 a.m. when he was confronted by a man in an alley who demanded his money. When the victim refused, the robber pulled out a handgun.
A struggle ensued and the gun went off. The victim was struck by one bullet, which passed through his hand and thigh. The robber fled the scene.
It appeared police were suspicious about the man's story—first reported here—as, according to a police report, "an extensive area check was done in that area by multiple officers, and no scene or evidence was located. There were no 911 calls in the area reporting shots fired, or a disturbance, and that area is heavily populated day and night."
Police haven't said whether they believe the two robberies are connected, but Jamieson says police believe the robbery was not random, and that the "house or the occupants were intentionally targeted."
