No Injuries In New Years Drive-By In Rainier Valley
Police are investigating a January 1st drive-by shooting at a shopping complex in the Rainier Valley.
A woman who witnessed the shooting told police she saw a small group of men and women standing on Rainier Avenue S and S Henderson street just before midnight when a dark green Toyota Camry pulled into a parking lot near the Saar's Market. The driver rolled down his window, pulled out handgun, and fired at least three shots at the group. The witness was not able to get a good look at the shooter, but told police he was wearing a red shirt.
The men and women in the group scattered and the witness fled to a nearby restaurant to call 911. "The witness was terrified and shaking when I contacted her," Officer Thomas Umpororicz wrote in his report.
Police did not find any shell casings or victims at the scene. The report says it is "possible" the shooting was gang-related.
