Canary Sing Releases "Freak Show" Video

By Jonathan Cunningham January 21, 2010

At first glance, you might think that THEESatisfaction, who are playing the PubliCola one-year anniversary party on Jan. 27 at the Crocodile, are the only female hip-hop group making any real noise. But that simply isn't true. Without bogging you down with other names (okay, Katie Kate, Julie C., DJ B. Girl, Lyricist Yze), just know that there is a growing contingent of talented women rappers in Seattle and Canary Sing is sprinting toward the head of the pack.

Both of the ladies in this group do tons of work with Seattle's youth and have been grinding in the local music scene for a while.

If you look closely enough, you'll even see a cameo from me in the video. Apparently, I'm an inveterate grinner. What's really crazy is that this video has already been posted on hip-hop websites in Russia and the Ukraine as well. The ladies are going global and it's good to see.
