Police Looking For Driver In Pedestrian Hit and Run in Fremont

By Jonah Spangenthal-Lee December 27, 2009

A fleet of police and medic units were dispatched to Fremont moments ago after a driver apparently plowed into several pedestrians on Fremont Ave N and N 39th Street and fled.

It appears three or four people were injured and police are now looking for a Hispanic male in a red jacket with blood on his face, who fled on foot.

No word yet on the victims' injuries.

Update: It appears the driver hit another car, which then spun out and hit a pedestrian. Police believe the driver lives in the area.

Update X2: SPD's statement about the incident:

On 12-27-09 at 1133 a.m.,  a silver, 2004,  SUV, driven by a 20-yoa male was traveling southbound on Fremont Ave N.  At the same time a red, 1988, Chev, Nova, (which was an unreported stolen vehicle), driven by an unknown age Hispanic male was traveling westbound on N. 39th St.

The two vehicles collided in the intersection.  The Land Cruiser veered to the right and struck a steel light pole on the southwest corner.  The Chev, Nova slide sideways and struck the curb coming to a stop near the Land Cruiser.

A 42-yoa female and a 44-yoa male pedestrian were walking on the sidewalk on the southwest corner.  Both were struck with debris from the two vehicles colliding.  However, the female pedestrian apparently was struck in the back of the head by the spare tire, which was ejected from the trunk of the Chev, Nova during the collision.

The Hispanic male driver of the Nova exited the vehicle bleeding profusely from the head and face and fled on foot immediately after the collision.  He is still at large.  The passenger of the Nova also had head and facial injuries remained at the scene.

The Seattle Fire Department responded to the scene and transported all five individuals to Harborview Medical Center.

The 42-yoa female pedestrian’s medical condition was serious but stable.  The passenger of the Nova had a broken jaw and lacerations to the forehead.  The occupants of the Land Cruiser and the male pedestrian did not have any significant injuries.

Traffic Collision Investigagors responded and processed the scene.
