Pedestrian Rage: Man Pepper Sprays Driver Downtown

By Jonah Spangenthal-Lee December 31, 2009

A warning to drivers: road rage goes both ways.

According to a police report, a witness flagged down a police officer on December 22nd after a red Nissan was left in the middle of the road near 5th and Olive with the engine running.

As the officer was examining the vehicle, a man walked up and told the officer "he went that way." The officer asked who the man was referring to, and the man responded "the guy who pepper sprayed me."

The report says the driver told the officer that he was in his car with several friends stopped in traffic when a man "about 40 years old, wearing a brown fishing hat, black jacket" walked up and stood in front of the car. The driver started hoking and yelled at the man to get out of the road. The man then walked up to the driver, pepper sprayed him, and took off running.

Police searched the area and found a man that matched the description of the suspect, but police did not find any pepper spray on him and he was not arrested.
