A man engaged in a desperate struggle with law enforcement and employees of a West Seattle supermarket, after he tried to make off with a duffel bag containing $449.78 worth of stolen beef (that's a shitload of beef!), at about 7 a.m. on December 10th.

Police responding to a 911 call arrived at the store to find three store employees struggling to detain the man, who was fighting tooth-and-nail to break free. 

Officers attempted to put the man in temporary restraints, but he subverted their efforts and broke free, charging the store's sliding front entryway with such force that a emergency release triggered, allowing the glass portals to swing wide open like tavern doors.

But that glimpse of freedom was fleeting at best; officers quickly subdued the man in the parking lot.

A subsequent police analysis of surveillance tapes clearly show the man filling his bag in the store's meat aisle, and later attempting to knock over a scrum of employees who tried to block his rush towards the entrance, in a last ditch effort to maintain possession of the bag while making a clean break.  

Officers provided an SPD business card with an incident number to the store manager and left the $449.78 of stolen beef in the care of supermarket employees.
