State GOP Has a Pot Bill Too

Seattle state Rep. Mary Lou Dickerson's (D-36) bill to legalize marijuana has been getting a lot of attention .
It got some more atttention today because Mayor-Elect Mike McGinn told KUOW he supported legalizing pot too.
But liberal Rep. Dickerson isn't the only state legislator looking at pot laws this session.
South Central Washington GOP state Rep. Larry Haler (R-8) has a bill that would limit medical use of marijuana.
The local ACLU's drug policy director Alison Holcomb had this to say about Rep. Haler's bill:
"It’s unfortunate that at a time when the Department of Justice has instructed its U.S. Attorneys not to waste federal resources prosecuting medical marijuana patients—and when Washington is struggling to find dollars to keep necessary public services available—one state legislator seems to think we ought to expend resources arresting, prosecuting, and jailing people with terminal and debilitating medical conditions."
I have a call in to Rep. Haler's office.
