It's "Punk Rock" for a Couple of Reasons

1. The Low Income Housing Institute, a Seattle low-income housing developer, is putting on a "Punk Rock Fleamarket" in Belltown tomorrow.
It's "punk rock" for a couple reasons: Merchants will mostly be selling records, bicycle parts, tacos, and Abbie Hoffman books—and the low $25 fee for a merchant space makes it a pretty DIY affair, too.
Booze and bands will begin at 8 pm. Their MySpace is also fun. Extra proceeds from the table fees and ticket sales (after insurance and advertising for the event gets covered) go to LIHI.
Saturday at noon (bands play at 8 pm) until midnight. Tickets are $1. At the Underground Events Center, at 1st and Bell.
2. The federal government is coming to town on Saturday to help with the City of Seattle-hosted "foreclosure workshops," administered by the Seattle Urban League, for anyone who wants to participate. The workshops consist of one-on-one meetings with mortgage counselors and lending company representatives on everything you should know as a homeowner--what foreclosure actually means, different ways to prevent foreclosure, and how to talk to lenders.
The class is sponsored in part by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Seattle branch of the Federal Reserve Bank.
Saturday, from 9 am to 5 pm, at Cleveland High School. Bring an ID, Social Security card, closing documents, last 2 years W-2s and tax returns, last 2 months pay stubs, last tow bank statements, and monthly mortgage statements.
3. Mad Rad—Seattle's party-rap mascots—and synth-rap cohorts Champagne Champagne are heading up this weekend's Go! Machine gig, a two-day hip- hop festival (Jonathan's on it here ), that, luckily, features a couple of more nuanced acts--namely, THEE Satisfaction, two cosmic-soul prodigies I dig very much, and They Live!, the hardest-working old school rap group in town (and their beats are the best of any local group, IMHO).
Tough-guy rapper Fatal Lucciano and spaced-out sex addicts Helladope will also be on hand—sort of a melee of Capitol Hill hip-hop all-stars-of-the-moment.
Friday at 8 pm (Champagne Champagne and THEE Satisfaction) and Saturday at 8 pm (Mad Rad and They Live!) at the Crocodile. Weekend passes are $20.
4. Finally, there's a show at the Funhouse tonight in honor of Ben Russell, a ubiquitous Seattle scenester who recently died from complications of his diabetes. A couple of noisy punk bands will play, including local outfit The Damage Done . Tickets are $5, and all of the money goes toward helping Russell's mom pay for the costs of his funeral, etc.
Tonight at the Funhouse (206 5th Ave North).
