It Doesn't Look Good for the GOP
Our color-coded guide to the November election continues today with a look at King County Executive Dow Constantine's decisive win over conservative Susan Hutchison. (On Tuesday we mapped out the mayor's race and yesterday we looked at R-71.)
Red: Constantine wins 90% and above
Orange: 80% - 89%
Yellow: 70% - 79%
Light Green: 60% -69%
Dark Green: 50% - 59%
Light Blue: 40% - 49%
Dark Blue: 39% or below
The analysis here is pretty dire for Republicans. Hutchison, a popular and charismatic candidate, needed to win the dark green areas (Shoreline, Redmond, Bellevue, Kent, and Des Moines) to have a chance. It didn't happen.
The only silver lining for the GOP, Constantine is a uniquely popular candidate and had higher-than-typical numbers, in the high 70s, in most of Seattle.
(He also scored over 90 percent in a mysterious East Side precinct of flaming liberals. R-71 was up over 90 percent there too. We're looking into what hippie commune occupies this sliver of the 48th legislative district.)
