[Editor's Note: Jonah's site, Seattlecrime.com is down temporarily (because he's getting overrun with traffic), so he's asked us to post an update on his scoop that SPD officers have surrounded a home in the Leschi neighborhood in connection with this morning's ambush and murder of four Lakewood police officers]:
SWAT officers have surrounded a home in the Leschi neighborhood and are looking for the person of interest sought in connection with this morning's shooting in Parkland , in which four Lakewood police officers were killed.
The home is on E Superior Street and Erie Avenue. Buses in the area are being diverted.
K9 and negotiator units are on scene, and King County's Guardian One helicopter is on scene and police have called for a mobile precinct. Officers have been called in from other precincts, and police have completely locked down the neighborhood. "We're using an abundance of caution," SPD spokesman told reporters at the scene. "We have to go on the assumption that anyone may be involved in the events today may be armed and extremely dangerous."
Seattle police spokesman Sean Whitcomb would only say the SWAT call out "may be" related to the murder of four officers in Parkland this morning. However, it appears the registered owner of the home is related to the person of interest in the shooting, Maurice Clemmons, and police are definitely looking for someone matching his description.
It sounds like a woman might have dropped off someone matching Clemmons' description at the house earlier today.
It appears police may be in contact with their subject, who is hiding out in a trailer near the home. They believe he is wounded and still armed, possibly with access to five rifles and shotguns.
