Mayor Nickels: "we will not rest until we find these suspects." "all city flags being lowered to half mast"

Chief Diaz: "all resource we can find will be used to get the suspects who did this"

"This investigation is fresh, new, still evolving, still don't have all of the answers."

"Other than the role of mayor or police chief, the Patrol Training officer is the most important position in the department"

7:30pm last night. Tim was in the passenger seat, traffic stop at 9:30, 9:35. After every event, the field training officer debriefs them what went right, what went wrong. While they were going over the information and the procedure, they were parked on 28th Avenue just before Yesler. While they were there, Officer Sweeney detected a vehicle on their left, she immediately senses danger, yells, and ducks as the gunfire begins. Officer Brenton was killed immediately. Officer sweeney not only called for help and backup, called for the fire department, but also got out and fired at the suspects.

"She handled herself like a tenured veteran"

"This is an assasination"

"We did stop an individual contemporaneously after the incident, but he may not be involved."

"We are using the onboard cameras of every police unit that was in the area."

No threats against this specific officer. Police officers are the most visible symbol of government. Nothing at all to indicate that they were looking just for them.

"It's a miracle that she (Sweeney) is alive"

"It came through the passenger window, toward the driver window."

"Officer sweeney is at home. We have several officers with her."

Deputy Chief Metz:

"The worst phone call in law enforcement that we can receive. Investigators immediately responded to the scene. Assistance from other agencies has been phenomenal."

Metz & Diaz visited Officer Brenton's family last night. "A very painful process. The family is devastated. Wife and 2 children, 11 and 8 years old,."

Convening line of duty response team. Beginning process of organizing officer Brenton's memorial service. No date yet.

"Officers see a lot on the street, but a very difficult process when it's one of their own."

"If a tragedy happens in other businesses, they can take a step back for a while. But police officers had

"Have the best police department in the nation, and will continue to deliver the best service possible."

"20k reward from crime stoppers for arrest and conviction of the people responsible for this."

"Will be providing information about how the community can support the family of the victim"

Officer Brenton was 39 years old. On the force 8 years. A lateral transfer from LaConner police department. His father was a retired Seattle police officer, and his uncle was a retired. Brother was an active member of Seattle Fire Department."

"Primary assignment has been East Precinct patrol. Was on Anti-Crime team for a while."

"WIthout going too far into it, we have people who may have seen it. Still trying to determine exactly who saw it at the time and immediately after."
