Cringeworthy

1. City Attorney-elect Pete Holmes has been invited to speak on a panel tomorrow afternoon that will debate marijuana policy, including decriminalization and the U.S. War on Drugs.
Holmes has told us he strongly opposes prosecuting for marijuana possession: "It’s not something that Seattle voters want, and it’s not justified under current policy," Holmes said.
Hosted by the Metropolitan Democratic Club, the event will also feature State Rep. Roger Goodman (a strong drug reform advocate), State Sen. Adam Kline, and Alison Holcomb, the drug policy director of the local ACLU.
Tomorrow at noon, on the second floor of the Plaza 600 Building at 6th & Stewart.
2. I've been waiting to put this on the PubliCalendar for a couple of weeks--tomorrow night, the school board is having its regular meeting to discuss its development plans, including what it will do with a couple of vacant school buildings.
The board will decide on what to do with the Columbia School, for example. The 80-year-old building was once home to Orca Elementary, but which the district will probably lease to private interests for the next few years. Tomorrow, the district will decide how long individual leases for the building will last, and how long the building will be leased out.
6 pm at the Stanford Center, 2445 3rd Ave S.
3. The Salon of Shame is an event in which brave participants read their own writing in front of a sold-out crowd.
What sets the event apart from the typical open mic, though, is that those participants have to read something they wrote in their younger days—like poetry they wrote in middle school, or excerpts from their teenage diary. The result is absoutely cringeworthy, and totally fun.

Salon of Shame only happens every few months, and it usually sells out.
