Another Contender in the 41st

By Erica C. Barnett November 30, 2009

Goldy over at Horse's Ass says he has some "insider info" from a "very reliable source" that Maureen Judge, executive director of the Washington Toxics Coalition, is among those lining up to replace either state Rep. Marcie Maxwell (D-41) in the House or state Sen. Fred Jarrett (D-41) in the Senate. Which seat ends up being up for grabs will depend on what Maxwell does; if she decides she wants the seat being vacated by Jarrett, who was recently appointed Deputy King County Executive, the other potential candidates have said they would support her and not seek Jarrett's seat. That would make Maxwell's seat the available one.

Assuming Maxwell does move over to the Senate (House Speaker Frank Chopp denies he's pressuring her to stay in the House, despite reports to the contrary), her successor will be chosen by the King County Council from a list of three produced by the precinct committee officers in the 41st. Also (potentially) on that list: Randy Gordon, a Bellevue attorney who tried to beat out Darcy Burner as the Democrat for Congress against Dave Reichert (R-8) in 2006; George Pieper, vice-president of the Greater Seattle Business Association; and Vicky Orrico, a Bellevue community activist who challenged Bellevue City Council incumbent Conrad Lee in this year’s election and narrowly lost.

Neither Maxwell nor Judge has returned calls for comment.
