Worldchanging (and PubliCola) Presents

By Erica C. Barnett October 30, 2009

PubliCola is excited to be a co-sponsor of two talks next month by Alex Steffen, co-founder of (and, full disclosure, a friend of mine). Worldchanging, a Seattle-based nonprofit web publication, takes an optimistic approach to environmental journalism: Instead of writing about what's wrong in the world, they cover cutting-edge solutions to the world's problems through a "bright green" perspective. Alex is a bestselling author and a regular on the worldwide speaking circuit, but he rarely speaks in Seattle, so this is a great chance to get to know a local environmental leader.

The first night will focus on "A New Global Future"— "breakthroughs in renewable energy, green building, clean technology, smart infrastructure and sustainable design that can enable the Pacific Northwest to not only help lead the planet away from catastrophe, but also to become an economic powerhouse."

The second night, "Seattle's Bright Green Moment," will focus on what cities like Copenhagen, London, and Seoul have done to transform themselves into environmental and economic leaders, and what Seattle can learn from those models.

Both talks are in the Great Hall of Town Hall, 1119 8th Ave. at 7:30 pm November 11 and 12. Tickets for Nov. 11 available here; tickets for Nov. 12 available here.
