Susan Hutchison Supported Ferry District Before She Opposed it, Constantine Says

By Erica C. Barnett October 28, 2009

This should probably be reserved for today's Press Release Roundup, but it's just too good: King County Executive candidate Dow Constantine sent out a press release this morning accusing his opponent Susan Hutchison of flip-flopping on the ferry district.

(Background: Hutchison has made a political issue of Constantine's support for the ferry district, which she has called a waste of money; Hutchison has also accused Constantine of holding the county flood district hostage if his fellow county council members didn't vote for the ferry district.) As Josh noted in his PRR a week ago, Hutchison has never really made the case against the ferry district.

Constantine's press release includes a link to this video of a CityClub-sponsored forum in Bellevue earlier this year, at which Hutchison held up a "Yes" sign when asked, "Should the county be in the passenger ferry business?"

Constantine spokesman Sandeep Kaushik said in a statement, "We always knew Susan Hutchison lacks the local government experience needed to serve as King County Executive. But over the last few weeks it has also become painfully obvious that she is not telling the truth about where she really stands on the important issues facing King County.”

Hutchison's spokesman Jordan McCarren has not yet returned a call for comment.
