Fact Check of the Day
I left out one moment in my post about this morning's Downtown Seattle Association debate, because the comeback was so good it deserves a post of its own.
Asked whether they would support dedicating parking meter revenues to the neighborhoods in which they're collected, every candidate but one raised their hands. That candidate? Richard Conlin.
Contacted by phone after the debate, Conlin explained why he didn't go along with his seven fellow council contenders.
"It's something neighborhoods have been pushing for for a while," Conlin said. "The odd thing about that is, 80 percent of the city's parking revenue comes from downtown. I think most neighborhoods would be very surprised to find out that there would be a massive transfer of revenues toward downtown Seattle."
Zing!
