Extra Fizz: Seattle Times in Afghanistan
Seattle Times reporter Hal Bernton's latest in-depth report
from the front in Afghanistan's Kandahar province with a brigade from Fort Lewis is tremendous.
In an era—9/11 through Obama—that seems more historic than any in more than 30 years, it's bad news that newspapers are in the throes of their own history, and radically cutting back. The Seattle Times has to rely on the AP, the LA Times, and the Washington Post for news about the health care debate, the financial crisis or the Middle East.
The Seattle Times deserves a round of applause (and Bernton a standing ovation) for Bernton's two-month stint in Afghanistan, which continues through the end of this month.
Bernton's blog, Afghan Journal, is here.
