Extra Fizz: Seattle News Site Lays off Entire Editorial Staff

By Erica C. Barnett October 27, 2009

Northwest Hub, a news site that covered urban planning, land use, and transportation, has succumbed to the poor economy; today, it laid off its entire editorial staff.

Recent articles on the site—which was a steady source of information for journalists, land-use planners, environmentalists, and wonks—ranged from for-urban-planners-only dry ("Highlights from Monday's DPD Land Use Info Bulletin") to informative ("Growing Pains: Portland Metro Area's Regional Coordination Process," about Portland's efforts to control sprawl) to thought-provoking ("Are Public Battles Over Viaducts Contagious?").

Staffers say the site, which operated as a nonprofit, will probably continue in some form. It was funded primarily by Seattle land-use attorney Peter Buck, who has not yet returned a call for comment.
