Extra Fizz: Candidate Featured Prominently in McGinn Ad Not a McGinn Supporter

Rob Holland, a candidate for Seattle Port Commission, was featured prominently in mayoral candidate Mike McGinn's latest campaign ad:

The only problem? Holland has not endorsed McGinn, and is staying out of the race.

Contacted by phone, Holland said he did tell McGinn he did give "initial consent" for McGinn to use the photo of the two candidates, taken at a labor council picnic, but thought it would be "part of a collage of photos" in a campaign mailer, not a prominent still in a TV campaign ad.

"I have not endorsed him," Holland says. "I think the best thing for me to do is let both of these two great candidates run their races, let the people of Seattle make the decision and I'll work with whoever wins if I win."

"Unfortunately, it's a perceived endorsement," adds Holland, who says he has contacted both McGinn and his opponent Joe Mallahan to let them know that he has not taken any position in their race.
