Elections Office to Investigate Hutchison Campaign

By Josh Feit October 21, 2009

KING 5 has the scoop that the Public Disclosure Commission has decided to move forward and investigate the Democrats' complaint against Susan Hutchison.

The allegation, which we wrote about here, is that Hutchison's campaign office may constitute an illegal campaign contribution. (The campaign never reported the fancy Laurelhurst home—valued at $732,000—on its campaign finance disclosures.)

Our reporting has connected maxed-out Hutchison contributor, cell phone mogul Bruce McCaw, to the home.

Hutchsion's campaign has maintained throughout the flap that it's not illegal to run a campaign out of a residence. That's true. But that's not the issue. The issue is: You have to report contributions (and pay any due rent, obviously.)

The PDC is already investigating Constantine's campaign for a possible violation involving illegal cooridnation with an independent expenditure campaign. Our report on that story is here.
