Elections Office to Investigate Hutchison Campaign

By Josh Feit October 21, 2009

KING 5 has the scoop
that the Public Disclosure Commission has decided to move forward and investigate the Democrats' complaint against Susan Hutchison.

The allegation, which we wrote about here
, is that Hutchison's campaign office may constitute an illegal campaign contribution. (The campaign never reported the fancy Laurelhurst home—valued at $732,000—on its campaign finance disclosures.)

Our reporting
has connected maxed-out Hutchison contributor, cell phone mogul Bruce McCaw, to the home.

Hutchsion's campaign has maintained throughout the flap that it's not illegal to run a campaign out of a residence. That's true. But that's not the issue. The issue is: You have to report contributions (and pay
any due rent, obviously.)

The PDC is already investigating Constantine's campaign for a possible violation involving illegal cooridnation with an independent expenditure campaign. Our report on that story is here.
