Campaign Finance Update
As has been widely reported
, mayoral candidate Joe Mallahan reported being approximately $95,000 in the hole as of the middle of October.
However, that debt includes expenses and obligations totaling about $100,000 in TV commercials, so Mallahan won't be hurting in the final days of the campaign. His opponent Mike McGinn, who has about $17,000 on hand, is spending $55,000 on cheaper cable-only TV ads, according to the Seattle Times.
Mallahan isn't the only candidate who's going into the general election in the red. City Attorney Tom Carr, who has spent more than $20,000 on mailings and banner ads in the Seattle Times, is $941 in the red; his opponent, Pete Holmes, has $9,589 on hand. Position 2 challenger David Ginsberg is $2,976 in the red; his opponent, incumbent Richard Conlin, has $29,612 on hand. And port commission candidate Max Vekich is $6,865 in the hole, although that doesn't account for an independent expenditure that unions are reportedly planning to make on his behalf; his opponent, has $12,527 on hand.
