Sound Transit just declared light-rail noise a public health emergency. April Putney, political director at Futurewise, had this to say on her Facebook page:

April Putney is a little embarassed. I hadn't realized that increased "noise pollution" somehow negated a reduction in carbon emissions. In other news, I'm thrilled! If the entire world goes silent, global warming is totally taken care of. Yay!

In related news, the city just declared noise produced by excess cars on city streets and freeways a public-health emergency and requested that citizens drive only when absolutely necessary. Except, of course, they totally didn't.
