McGinn Issues Mallahan's Press Release
Mayoral candidate Mike McGinn attempted to steal some of his opponent Joe Mallahan's thunder today. The McGinn camp sent out a press release unveiling what they claim is a plan Mallahan is going to release later this week. The most intriguing element, if true, is that Mallahan's advisory team will be headed up by Chamber of Commerce chairman Tayloe Washburn.
The rest of the McGinn camp's "scoop" is pretty thin soup (Mallahan will issue one policy paper a week, criticize the cost of McGinn's light rail expansion plans, argue that voters didn't really oppose the proposed waterfront tunnel, and introduce a new social media strategy.)
Mallahan's spokeswoman, Charla Neuman, confirms that Washburn will be on the advisory team but says "I don't know that anybody's going to have an official title." As for the rest, she says, "We'll criticize McGinn for a number of things, especially his plan to dump 50,000 cars in the middle of downtown and turn away $2.4 billion from the state that will go to another city if he gets his way"—a reference to state funding for the proposed waterfront tunnel, which Mallahan supports.
Another intriguing element ... Does the Mallahan campaign have a pro-McGinn mole?
Neuman says "no, because none of this actually came from the campaign. "He must have heard Joe talking on KUOW this morning," when Mallahan mentioned that he was forming an advisory group. McGinn's campaign would not comment one way or the other.
