Extra Fizz: Mallahan Announces Impressive Advisory Committee

By Erica C. Barnett September 22, 2009

Joe Mallahan just announced a new advisory committee for his campaign. And while his opponents in the Mike McGinn camp somehow got some early details (Chamber of Commerce chair Tayloe Washburn) and leaked it yesterday, the list is impressive and newsworthy.

In addition to Washburn the list also includes social-justice activists, advocates for the homeless, current and former city and state officials, and public-safety advocates.

The only category that's notably absent from Mallahan's list: Prominent environmental leaders, most of whom (the Cascade Bicycle Club; the Sierra Club; members of the Transportation Choices Coalition) are supporting McGinn
.

On the list:

Bob Santos, former ED of Inter*im and a longtime civil rights and housing advocate;

Rich O'Neill, president of the Seattle Police Officers Guild (the local police union, which endorsed Mallahan earlier this year);

Kenny Stuart, president of the Seattle Firefighters Union, which also endorsed Mallahan;

Tina Podlodowski, former Seattle City Council member and head of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Puget Sound;

Michael DeBell, president of the Seattle school board;

Dean Nielsen, regional director of Progressive Majority and a prominent local Democrat;

Bill Block, project director of the King County Committee to End Homelessness;

Judy Clibborn, chair of the state House Transportation Committee and a supporter of the proposed waterfront tunnel (which Mallahan supports and McGinn opposes);

Bob Donegan, a waterfront business owner, who also supports the tunnel;

and Karen Daubert, president of the Seattle Parks Foundation, among others.
