The two Mikes—O'Brien and McGinn—are like celebrities tonight, with hugely packed parties. News crews keep popping into McGinn's party at Havana, asking him repeatedly,  "were you surprised?" He's laughing. Tons of confidence from the top of Capitol Hill. He will be on KOMO live at 11pm tonight, and is holding a press conference at 10 am tomorrow.

Up in Fremont at 8:15 this evening, O'Brien was not so confident. Polling well below several other candidates, O'Brien gave  a somber speech along the lines of "this campaign was never about me, it was about Seattle's future." You could tell he was just hanging on, not knowing what to expect. He couldn't even watch the TV, he was so nervous.

Then: Shouts erupted as someone with a laptop announced the results. O'Brien had swept the competitors, with 35% of the vote, far ahead of the other candidates.  Fist pumping,  cheers, countless high-fives, and quite a bit of joyful cursing ensued from the re-energized candidate and his supporters.

Few can celebrate like this pair. The two Mikes are on top in their races tonight.
