Reffed Up

By SoundersNerd August 24, 2009

Recap: Sounders v. Dynamo. 1-1 tie.

I cringe whenever anyone complains about the reffing . It's a fact of the game, I dismiss, don't let it interfere. Get over it, move on.

I think any attempt to bring reffing via instant replay (a la the NFL) is silly; if nothing else it's too complicated and interferes.

Having said that, I have never before seen a goal recalled for no explicable reason.

Holy Fucking Shit.

Granted, Dynamo complained vocally in our first meeting about Montero's goal .  They had reason: From a biased pointed of view, it looked like the ball was cleared before it crossed the line into the goal.

However, tonight's Sounder's recalled goal in the 46th minute is literally inexplicable.

Linesman, tell me PLEASE, WHO exactly was offsides?  Because it's clear to everyone, and we've been analyzing that instant replay since (which just pours salt on our wounds) that no one, neither Jaqua the assister nor Alonso the scorer, was offsides.  In fact, they are very very clearly onsides. Many offsides calls are 50/50, left to the linesman to decide.  In this instance, there isn't even a question.

I hate people complaining about referees (can you do a better job?)  In this instance, yes, I can.

WHO WAS OFFSIDES?!?!  Really. WHO?  Tell me. Cause the video SCREAMS otherwise: NO ONE was even CLOSE to being offsides, ref.

I hope they revoke your license.  May your Xbox never, ever function.

Otherwise, Sounders would've won.  We should've won, and hell, I say give 'em a point for that alone.  As the announcers repeated, especially in minute 70+, the team(s) (but who cares about Dynamo) were stewing in their own sweat.

Stewing in their own sweat, out playing the home team, and would've won if not for the fucking referee. That's not a bad game.

Next week, Toronto comes to town.
