Jazz at Cal Anderson Park

By Josh Feit August 14, 2009

Hot tip on email:
Hi Josh,

You and I met at R's xmas party. You were raving about my band playing A Love Supreme on election night at the Mass Transit Now event. We both went to Oberlin. We were drinking. It was a great night.

We've got a great show this Saturday August 15, the second concert of Sounds Outside 2009. It's free, community oriented, and independently organized. I figured the readers of PubliCola might be interested. This will be the fourth year Monktail has produced Sounds Outside in Cal Anderson Park, and I think it's one of the best we've programmed. The August show has some of the region's greatest saxophonists on one stage, including the phenomenal Bert Wilson , who was part of the late 60's New Thing in New York, Skerik with Craig Flory and Hans Teuber, and then there's Greg Sinibaldi , arguably Seattle's most innovative player and composer.

That plus two groups from the Monktail family , Figeater , the brianchild of clarinetist/composer Beth Fleenor, and The Melbatones led by David "Skip" Milford.

If there's any info I can get you about the event please let me know. I hope to see you out at the park. Please say hi. Thanks.

Sounds dynamite. Here are the details .

And it's true. On election night 2008, I was at a party at Kells in Pike Place Market, and right as the TV announced Obama had gone over 270, the band was in the middle of A Love Supreme by John Coltrane.

Acknowledgment. Resolution. Pursuance. Psalm.
