"I'm Biased."

By ElectionNerd August 18, 2009

This Rebecca.

I Just got to Collins Pub on Second Street. There's Maybe thirty people here, standing around in circles of five or seven.  A lot of family and friends, dressed up in button downs a couple suits, all age range from a couple of 4 year olds to 70s.  Talked with Jordan Royer for maybe ten minutes. Access! He reiterated his desires to keep taxes low, make sure everyone has a seat at the proverbial table, etc.

When asked about his role working on the night life safety issues under Mayor Nichols, Royer said, "I wouldn't have done it exactly the way it was done."  The campaign is hoping for turnout to increase over the night. In the past two weeks, they've called 8,700 "perfect" voters and asked them to come out to support Royer.  From the horses mouth, why should you vote for Royer?  He says he's got a lot more government experience than the other guys in the race.

Father Royer (that's former mayor, Charley Royer) says that he's always nervous before results come out: "You never know what's going to happen."  He speculates that it's a lot harder to run today than it was when he was mayor.  "There are so many voices commenting on what we do."  (Live bloggers like myself, I presume.)  When asked about the strengths of his son's campaign, father Royer said his son is a problem solver-- and compared him to Sam Smith, stating that Jordan would make strong connections with constituents and follow up on their needs.  After a good five minutes of fatherly love, Royer Sr concluded, "But I'm biased."
