Coffee Cocktail Contest
In case you didn’t get the memo, yesterday, Starbucks held a cocktail competition at the lovely Hotel 1000 (H1K?) for a new Starbucks product, VIA™ Ready Brew
, which is the coffee giant's addition to the instant coffee market. What does this have to do with a cocktail competition? Apparently someone at $BUX HQ thought this product could be used in cocktails.

Before VIA™ Ready Brew, $BUX had Starbucks Coffee Liqueur , which was made in partnership with Jim Beam. (Rumor has it, this product is being abandoned).
The event was surely a PR stunt, but a fun one at that—what with all of the Trophy Cupcakes stacked up to be devoured.
Anu Apte and her Ramos Gin Fizz’esque cocktail, the Columbia Coffee Fizz, took the day—and the prize, which was a $5000 donation to the charity of her choice, Seattle’s The ASTAR Center .

All that being said, four Washington State Bartender’s Guild bartenders were asked to try their hands at adding VIA™ to an original cocktail creation. So, about 50 people were invited to come by and try four cocktails created by the four bartenders: Keenan Ahlo of Boka , Anu Apte of Rob Roy , me, and Erik Hakkinen of Zig Zag .
