Bring on Toronto
Sounders, tied for 3rd (with Chivas) at 8-6-9, 33pts
vs.
Toronto FC, 8-8-6, 30 pts
LAST MEETING (MLS)
TOR 0, SEA 2
The playoffs are coming quickly. The top two teams from both divisions qualify; and then the top four with points, regardless of division. The magical number is 40 points; it doesn't guarantee a place in the playoffs, but only two teams in MLS history have reached that number and failed to go on.
Currently, we're tied for 5th place with Chivas, but Toronto, Colorado, and New England are currently tied for the last two slots .
For the ultra-nerdy, check out this guy's analysis .
Toronto is desperate for a win. And they're especially sore since we shot them down on their home turf—which, until we overwhelmed them in that area too, had the largest fanbase, greatest attendance, and most "intimidating" crowd in the league . (One particular avid Toronto fan claims he's coming to town tomorrow to debunk the "Rave Green" myth, to expose things like piped crowd noise.)
However, the Sounders are at full strength. For only the fifth time this season, we have no major injuries or suspensions. Holy Cow. We are playing with all our starters. I don't remember the last time that happened.
However, Coach Sigi changed things around against Houston, starting Levesque and LeToux on the outside midfield, and playing Freddie up top. It was a well-needed change that helped us tie in Houston and helped diversify our offensive options.
Finally, we're going to try "live blogging" from the game. I'll be in the press box, where they've laid down a strict "no cheering" rule. Cynara told me to not have any beers, while Josh said I could. Look for test posts at halftime and after the game.
