Notes from the 34th District Dems Meeting

By Erica C. Barnett July 8, 2009

The 34th District Democrats' endorsement meeting is underway, and a few interesting tidbits have emerged:

1) Peter Steinbreuck, the former city council member who decided not to run for mayor earlier this year, is endorsing city attorney challenger Peter Holmes against incumbent Tom Carr.

2) Mayor Greg Nickels' legal counsel Regina LaBelle, meanwhile, is endorsing Carr.

3) In the last two days, 34th District membership director Jeff Upthegrove confirms, about a dozen city employees have signed up as members of the district -- allowing them to vote for the mayor. "They're going all out," Upthegrove says of the mayor's campaign. The mayoral endorsement has not come up yet; Nickels is a voting member of the 34th.
