Fireworks In the 34th

By Erica C. Barnett July 8, 2009

A huge shitstorm is going on at the 34th District Democrats over the race between council incumbent Richard Conlin and challenger David Ginsberg. Ginsberg received 122 votes from members; Conlin received 60. That would amount to 66 percent for Ginsberg, 34 percent Conlin, giving Ginsberg the endorsement. However, two ballots were "spoiled"--improperly marked-- and according to Robert's Rules of Order, those votes count toward the total. Under those rules, Ginsberg narrowly loses.

I just overheard Ginsberg supporter (and 34th member) Lou Frillman screaming at district parliamentarian Stephen Lamphear, "I don't give a shit who you are! You can't do this to me!" Frillman added: "You aren't the grand poobah!"

The members are now deciding whether to do a recount by hand vote.
