DSA Releases Candidate Ratings

By Erica C. Barnett July 30, 2009

The Downtown Seattle Association, the main group representing downtown businesses, just ranked the candidates for City Council based on their positions on four of DSA's priorities—support for the downtown deep-bore tunnel,  that support job growth and competitiveness (e.g, opposing the "head tax," supporting growth in South Lake Union), reducing panhandling and drug dealing downtown, and improving the downtown streetscape.

The candidates who scored the best with DSA overall were Position 4 candidate Sally Bagshaw, Position 6 candidates Jessie Israel and Martin Kaplan, and Position 8 candidate Jordan Royer. (Bagshaw, Israel, and Kaplan all received "perfect" scores on the downtown business group's issues. King County Executive candidates Dow and Larry Phillips also received perfect scores from the DSA.

Among those who received low scores from the DSA: David Bloom, a lefty candidate for council Position 4; Nick Licata, the incumbent in Position 6; Rusty Williams, a candidate for Position 8; and Ross Hunter, a candidate for County Executive.
