Contribution of the Day
Robert Rosencrantz, one of six candidates for Seattle City Council Position 8, just dumped $15,000 of his own money into his race.
As I reported in Morning Fizz a couple of weeks ago, only two of the candidates in the crowded Position 8 field—Mike O'Brien and Rozencrantz—had raised more than $50,000 by midmonth. With ballots landing in mailboxes next week, that's not a lot of money for the direct mail and other "voter outreach" strategies candidates will want to do to reach voters in time for the August 18 all-mail primary.
Rosencrantz's contribution to his campaign, along with another $22,000 or so raised since the end of May, brings his total raised to around $95,000; however, since he had only about $19,000 on hand at the end of May, the most he could have on hand now is around $56,000. O'Brien, meanwhile, has raised around $18,000 since May, for around $64,000 raised; since he had about $30,000 on hand at the end of May, the most he could have on hand now is around $48,000. And Jordan Royer has raised about $27,000 since May, bringing his total to around $88,000; since he had about $29,000 on hand at the end of May, the most he could have in the bank is around $56,000. None of the remaining three candidates have come anywhere close to Royer, O'Brien, and Rosencrantz in fundraising.
Candidates will file detailed contribution and expenditure reports next week showing where they've been spending their money and how much they raised by July 27.
