Morning Fizz commenter Asa asks, "Is there a list of the 24 'spaces open to the public' anywhere?" (Council member Nick Licata has identified two dozen privately owned parks and plazas in downtown that are technically open to the public, but are often hidden on the upper floors of buildings or otherwise hard to find.)

In fact, Asa, there is a list. It's right here, (Note: The person who photographed Seattle's downtown open spaces, including the three shown here, asked that we remove the link to her site.)
The buildings on the list include 720 Olive Way, 1000 2nd Ave., Safeco Plaza at 1001 4th Ave., the 1111 3rd Ave. Building, Bell Plaza at 1600 7th Ave., the Columbia Center Bank of America Tower (411 Columbia St.), the Crowne Plaza Hotel (1113 6th Ave.), Fifth Ave. Plaza (500 5th Ave.), One and Two Union Square (600 University St.), Park Place (1200 6th Ave.), the Plaza 600 Building (600 Stewart St.), the Seattle Municipal Tower (525 Columbia St.), the Sheraton Hotel (1400 6th Ave.), the Sixth and Lenora Building (2033 6th Ave.), the Wells Fargo Center (999 3rd Ave.), the Westin Building (2001 6th Ave.), and the Westin Hotel (1900 Fifth Ave.)
and it includes a couple of my favorite hidden downtown spaces—the rock landscape at One Union Square and the second-story plaza at the Washington Mutual Tower, above, as well as some I'd never imagined existed, like the seventh-story terrace at the IDX Tower, on Madison between Third and Fourth Avenues, below.

Licata is working to install signs in unmarked downtown open spaces to let the public know they're allowed to use them.
