The Mayoral Candidates by the Numbers

By Erica C. Barnett June 30, 2009

Despite all the hype surrounding mayoral candidate James Donaldson's recent "surge" in the polls (from 9 to 14 percent, with 26 percent still undecided), the former Sonic is still trailing badly in fundraising, with just $4,700 raised so far this month (a haul that still leaves Donaldson's bank account in the red).

Meanwhile, Jan Drago was raising money fast despite a slow start, and Joe Mallahan—a T-Mobile exec who poured $200,000 of his own money into the race—was nearly on par with Drago. Of course, none of the challengers even came close to Nickels's total, which was more than three times as large as the amount raised by Drago, his closest financial competitor.

Here's how the candidates stacked up this month so far, in order of contributions from most to least:

Nickels: $87,000

Drago: $24,345

Mallahan: $20,940

Mike McGinn: $10,600

Donaldson: $4,723
