I'm not sure everyone shares my obsession with Islam in American hip-hop, but tonight, KCTS is airing a documentary called New Muslim Cool about a (deep breath) Puerto Rican-American drug dealer who turns to Islam and rap music to clean up his life.

He starts a mosque/ spiritual rap center in Pittsburgh which is then raided by the federal government after 9/11. There are a ton of fascinating questions here (are American Muslim rappers the new Sufis?) and, basically, I’m stoked.
