PubliCola and the Post Globe

By Sandeep Kaushik May 21, 2009

I am a little late writing about this, but have been busy. Next week we begin a trial arrangement with the Post Globe, the news site set up by a group of former Seattle Post-Intelligencer reporters led by Kery Murakami.

Basically, the deal is this: the Post Globe is going to pay Josh a modest monthly stipend for the right to cross-post some of our content. Morning Fizz is going to stay exclusively on our site, as is the content by PubliCola's various Nerds. The rest of Josh's stuff, and Chris Kissell's coverage of the delegation, is available to the Post Globe to also use on their site (they'll credit PubliCola for any of our posts that they use).

The arrangement has potential benefit for both sides. For us, it is an opportunity to introduce PubliCola content to a wider audience. And, not insignificantly, it will provide Josh with some much needed revenue to keep PubliCola going. The Post Globe, which has struggled a bit getting out of the gate, has a significant site revamp in the works and is hungry for content. We will help fill some of that gap with respect to political news. So it could be a win-win. We've agreed to try it for a month or two, and then both sides will reevaluate to see if we want to continue.

In other PubliCola news: I'm happy to report (though Josh is even happier) that we just sold the premium banner ad spot across the top of the page to Urban Visions, the company headed by green developer Greg Smith.

Smith, who earlier this year decided against a run for mayor, is a PubliCola fan. [Disclosure: I am Mayor Nickels' campaign spokesperson and yes, Seattle politics is a small world]. Naturally, we commend Greg for his excellent taste in urban liberal news sites.

In even more PubliCola news: coming soon, a PubliCola iPhone app. No smart phone will be complete without one! Ex-Microsoftie Nikhil George at PodCurry is working on it, and just sent us screen shots from the prototype. It's pretty cool.
