The Best One-Liner of the Session
Governor Chris Gregoire's climate change legislation, initially billed as a "Cap and Trade" bill, has been a big disappointment to Greens.
The bill, largely symbolic now, has no guidelines about capping carbon emissions (or trading permits) and even has environmental groups like the Sierra Club lobbying against it.
Everyday, the press offices in both chambers send out a quick email run down of the legislation that's queued up for the day. In a jokey dig at Gregoire (?) today, the email update from the Senate Democrats—after listing what was on tap—concluded with perhaps the funniest line of the session about the so-called "Cap and Trade" bill:
"Cap and trade (minus cap, trade) bill are looking more like tomorrow."
