Rep. Geoff Simpson Challenges His Committee Chair On Light Rail

By Josh Feit April 2, 2009

There's been a lot of controversy about House Transportation Committee Chair Rep. Judy Clibborn's (D-41, Mercer Island, Bellevue) transit budget proviso for an "asset assessment  study" that would delay Sound Transit expansion across I-90. (I wrote about it here. And check out Seattle Transit Blog for more in depth coverage of the issue.)

Here's some breaking news from Olympia: Rep. Geoff Simpson (D-47, Covington, Kiss Song) is shopping an amendment to kill Clibborn's proviso—and he's got over 20 signatures from House colleagues.

I've got a call into Rep. Simpson's office to see who is and isn't signing. In specific: How do representatives from Seattle's east side suburbs feel about keeping light rail expansion across I-90 on time.

UPDATE: I just talked to Rep. Simpson, and he reports that he has not talked to any Reps from the east side suburbs yet.
