Anvil! The Story of Anvil opened last night at the Landmark Varsity theater in the U District.  This SIFF 2008 favorite documents Canadian metal rockers Steve "Lips" Kudlow and Robb Reiner's post-relevance attempt to achieve rock glory. (Drummer Reiner has no relation to the Rob Reiner, who made his directorial debut with the metal mockumentary This is Spinal Tap—though the coincidence is striking.) 

Joining the aging band on a tour of hockey arenas, director Sacha Gervasi explores the band's heroic loserdom as they try to crank it to 11.  Plays at 7, 9 and 11—one week only.
