FBI Investigates Rep. Norm Dicks' Top Contributor

By Josh Feit March 23, 2009

A front-page  story  in today's Seattle Times flags an FBI investigation into PMA—a powerful defense lobbying firm. The Times' interest in the investigation? PMA is a major contributor to U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks (D-WA, 6).

The investigation concerns thousands of dollars worth of PMA contributions to members of congress where it isn't clear who actually wrote the checks.

The Seattle Times reports that Dick's was the 4th top recipient of PMA contributions—$84,000—and also points out that Rep. Dicks—over the past two years—has gotten nine "earmarks" for PMA clients, totaling $20 million.

Sen. Patty Murray, the article reports, was also a recipient of PMA money—although much less, $26,000—and helped secure $4.8 million in projects for PMA clients.

One thing worth adding to the Seattle Times report: PMA ties Boeing as Rep. Dicks top all-time contributor: $131,000, according to OpenSecrets.org.
