PubliCola Adds Life. Week #3

By Josh Feit February 6, 2009

Here's the round up of this week's coverage:

WE TOLD YOU SO MONDAY

King County Executive Ron Sims announces he's taking the job with the Obama administration in DC, the No. 2 spot at HUD.

King County Council Member Larry Phillips focuses on Sims' open seat.

TechNerd finds some good news in the economy: Amazon.com.

U.S. Rep. Brian Baird (D-WA, 3) pushes a stock transaction disclosure bill that targets his congressional colleagues. Meanwhile, U.S. Sen. Patty Murray tries to convince  her  Senate colleagues to add $5 billion in transit projects to the stimulus bill.

And in Olympia, transit dollars are disappearing.

TOM DASCHLE TUESDAY

The Daschle disaster sends "OMG!Obama" into a panic

We urge you to vote for Sherril Huff for KC Elections Director and, thank God, on Tuesday evening, Huff takes a commanding lead over the rest of the pack.

FoodNerd tries to free herself from the bad habits:

"Inevitably, these recipes gone awry were the result of Sunday nights where I was distracted by the details of the upcoming week, and so my focus was task-based.  I cooked to be done so I could eat and be done."

And the idea of an online-only P-I gains some traction with Hearst.

CHRIS KISSEL WEDNESDAY

Our "That Washington" reporter, Chris Kissel, keeps us up to speed on the stimulus package: Sen. Murray's transportation add-on goes down; what's in it for Washington state?; and Cantwell and Murray split on a giveaway for Detroit

Also: SportsNerd
 on the Super Bowl.

MAJORITY LEADER THURSDAY

I interview State Sen. Lisa Brown (D-3, Spokane) and write about budget hell.

MusicNerd listens to Lykke Li and writes this:
Monster single “Dance Dance Dance” is that triumph. The bass alternates between two notes, some bearded dude plays a conga and a cowbell, and Li sings a melody that's impossible to forget. On February 13, Li will play this song of dance floor romance, minimalist details, and saxophone, and the Showbox will lose its collective shit and you will be lucky to be there.

FRIDAY

The battle in DC: U.S. Sen. Patty Murray in 11th-hour Stimulus negotiations.

The battle in Seattle: Density

FilmNerd sees a French film.

Speaking of sullen Existentialism: "I found myself alone, alone, alone above the raging sea!"
