Property Watch: A West Seattle Home Adjoins the Sea

Puget Sound creatures make the coolest neighbors.

This West Seattle home puts the “beach” in Beach Drive. Set right along the rocky shoreline, it frames up-close-and-personal Puget Sound views through south- and west-facing floor-to-ceiling windows, warmed by a sloping timber ceiling. Its back deck is situated over the bulkhead in a way that gives the illusion—which is honestly not too far off—that the structure is right at the water's edge, like a wide dock. The waves certainly get closer at high tide.

While it was built in 1928, the house was remodeled at some point in perfect midcentury style. Because of the home’s setting on a curving shoreline, the sea view is almost as clear to the south as the west, just with a few more trees. A frosted-glass door leads out onto the large wooden deck that stretches all the way out to the bank. 

The three bedrooms and finished basement have been kept totally no-frills, waiting for the next owner’s customizations—but between those accommodations and the two bathrooms, it’s ready to house a whole family or host guests for a beach weekend.

The environment is ideal for the armchair naturalist. According to the current owner, a particular eagle stops by every day to hang out in front of the property. The broker behind the listing adds that a sea lion even posted up in front of the bulkhead during an open house.
