Parade of Pets: Keeping Busy
February 11, 2011

Brie is a 12-year-old Toy Poodle. She was born in Sarasota, Florida, and recently transferred to Seattle. She enjoys dining, walking, and reading books.

One day, I found an extra pair of glasses and wondered how our cat, Kayla, would like wearing them. Too bad she can’t read.

Taken on our wedding day by the photographer extraordinaire Jenny Jimenez. Even Stella was elated and happy on this amazing day (which you can see in her big smile)!

Lanie attempting to keep cool during Seattle’s summer 2009 heat wave!

Woody is a labradoodle and is the official "Complaints Department Manager" at the Woodmark Hotel in Kirkland. He is also the host of the seasonal Yappier Hour, a cocktail hour for dogs and their owners. Woody spends his days lounging by the fire in the hotel lobby and enjoying walks on the shores of Lake Washington at Carillon Point.

Meet Willy, a part Husky (yes, her mom was a full Husky, and yes, Willy is a she) and a part… well, we’re just not sure. What we do know is that Willy is a silly, hence her name. Willy loves to go to the dog park more than anything, and this is a photo of a time when I was leaving the house and I wasn’t taking her to the dog park. She just couldn’t understand how anything in my life was more important than a trip to the dog park. I tried to explain, but I don’t think she understood. I told her I would be home in a few hours and that we would go upon my return. She just stood there, looking at me confused and anxiously waiting for me to pick up her leash. I didn’t, and boy, was she mad about that. When I came home, I discovered that she had chewed up a DVD from Netflix. I guess she had trouble with the "universal" remote. Needless to say, Willy is about the cutest one-year-old puppy I have ever seen, and we love her sooooo much!

Crimson is an Alaskan Klee Kai. I am a WSU grad, and my boyfriend, a UW Husky, bought him for my birthday and called him a "mini-husky." Not knowing if such a breed really existed, I searched "mini husky" and found the breed. Then I named him Crimson the Grey after the WSU colors.

Monty loves to crawl up on the dashboard of our truck in order to look at us and look out all the windows while we are driving. He barely fits, but somehow he manages to get up there.

Maddy attends Downtown Dog in Friday Harbor where she rides in the Bow Wow Bus out to the fields and ponds. There, with her doggie friends, she swims in the pond, runs in the fields, and naps in the sun.

Bailey is trying to figure out the perfect bed to rest on. The end-table in our living room is not the place! We adopted Bailey the weekend of Thanksgiving after a nice woman from the German Shepherd Rescue agreed to save him from a Southern California shelter and foster him. Bailey was scheduled to be euthanized, and we are so happy he was saved! He has brought such great joy to our lives! Now to find the perfect bed!

We brought Sydney on our boat for the first time, and for a water dog she was pretty scared! She kept looking back at us almost like she was saying, "Do we have to be in this thing?"

Milly ‘s favorite game is to have me wrap her up like a burrito in my quilt and let her fight her way out. She jumps around and snorts until she’s out then looks at me with this dopey grin on her face. Whenever she’s ready to play, she roots her nose under the blanket.

Zoe loves to relax on the set of a photo shoot.

Hugo loves to perch on top of the couch so he can see everything that is going on in our place. This happens to be the face I get to go home to every day.

These two little pug brothers are the sweetest companions in the world. They are named after NFL teams that I follow. Bear (the little guy) is adventurous, curious, and a big-time cuddler. Bronco is independent and more of a homebody (his heaven is chewing a bone on his bed), but when he is really tired there is nothing he likes more than a good belly rub. They are turning two years old in April.

Rondey says, "Oh no! I’m knocking on the wrong door! No wonder nobody is letting me in."

Tess is a seven-year-old rescued Boston Terrier. Her favorite place to sit is by the heating vent, even when the curtains get in the way.

I was searching for another Charlie at the Seattle Humane Society when this shy girl slapped her huge paw on the glass of her kennel. I would have walked right past her, but she got me to stop and look in her eyes, and I knew. The original Charlie had already found a home anyway! Charlie Trout has a YouTube channel and blog devoted to her now, so the world has seen her blossom from a timid stray into The World’s Greatest Dog. This photo was taken last Thanksgiving at the Hotel Deluxe in Portland. Charlie loves to travel. "Dog friendly" are her two favorite words. In addition to Portland, Charlie has made multiple trips to Montana, the Gorge, and Whistler where she attended the Olympics. Not bad for a girl from the mean streets of Everett.

Gloomy took a liking to this Frosted Mini Wheats box and claimed it as his own. Eventually, his ears got too big for the box and he resorted to sitting on top of it.

We brought Sage home when she was eight weeks old as a little sister for our almost two-year-old dog Mosley. Sage is a purebred Weimaraner and a great little runner.

Luther reclaims the sofa after a mud romp in Golden Gardens.

This was after walking into my room after a long day of work to find that Lucy had eaten my new pair of pumps that I spent a pretty penny on. Is this the look of innocence or what?

Taipooh just "is"—he is our little ZEN MASTER, rescued from neglect off the streets of Taiwan 11 years ago. We often catch him "just sitting there" for minutes—meditating with his tongue sticking out! Taipooh was in such bad condition when he first got to Seattle that we didn’t think he’d make it, but with the help of great veterinarians here in Seattle, he did. Taipooh lost his eyesight this year, but not his sweet and calm spirit and occasional fit of spunk!

Ozzie came into my life via Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue. He had been abandoned by his previous owner, and ended up in a shelter with a wonderful foster mom. She brought him up to meet me, and it was love at first sight! He was a timid little guy at first, and it’s been a real joy to see him open up and become a more confident and outgoing dog. He loves chasing bunnies, playing keepaway with his pink lizard, and sleeping in my lap. He does NOT like waking up in the morning.
