We’re just a few days from the January 20 inauguration of president-elect Joe Biden and vice president elect Kamala Harris. The ceremony happens at 9am West Coast time, an hour of day that’s not exactly ideal for big celebrations. No matter—some spots around Seattle have crafted special takeout menus, sweets, and even morning-friendly cocktails to mark the beginning of a new administration.
Still available on inauguration day:
Molly Moon’s
Pie-den Kam-ala Mode is back. The honeycrisp apple pie flavor introduced in Sept 2020 is once again on the seasonal menu to celebrate our ice cream–loving leader's and groundbreaking vice president's ascent into office. A streusel crumble topping and chai-spiced caramel swirl make the ice cream a sweet reward after the first few weeks of 2021.
Maybe next time:
Trophy Cupcakes
The cupcake shop devised two festive tributes for the day: “Cup of Joe” espresso cupcakes (topped with Biden’s aviator sunglasses, of course) and vanilla “Kamalacakes” with “I’m Speaking” and red lips piped on top. Order a six-pack of these, or some democracy-themed mixed dozens festooned with flags and Uncle Sam hats, or go big with the Inauguration Celebration Box. It includes four Biden and Harris cupcakes, six macarons, and a bottle of cava—not to mention confetti poppers and mini bubbles. Start an order online.
Cascina Spinasse
Capitol Hill’s Italian restaurant stays true to its Piedmont roots, celebrating inauguration with a three-course dinner and wine to match. Stuart Lane’s menu includes an arugula salad alongside lasagna, and an apple and quince crostata. Two optional bottles of prosecco and red wine allow you to raise a glass in celebration. Order online by Jan 18. spinasse.com
The BottleNeck Lounge
Imbibing on a Wednesday morning? Madison Valley’s BottleNeck Lounge assembled a trio of assemble-at-home drinks to accompany the swearing-in ceremony. These include the Biden bellini made with housemade peach puree and a Harris hot toddy that nods to our future VP’s ancestry with chai tea, and star anise. A third cocktail, The Cold Shoulder, combines cold brew and whiskey. (Don’t worry, we also don’t know what it has to do with the inauguration, but it sounds great.) And did I mention each drink serves two? Toast to the beginning of a new era. Order online by Jan 16.
Eden Hill Restaurant and Eden Hill Provisions
A five-course tasting menu from Maximillian Petty’s fine dining restaurant includes smoked salmon frittata, a chicken roulade, and a salisbury steak au poivre plus a country loaf and a tarte a la bouillie with caramel apples. Meanwhile, just down the road, Petty’s more casual Eden Hill Provisions has assembled a brunch box for two. Build your own English muffin breakfast sandwiches as you watch our next president take the oath of office, and don’t forget the side of potatoes and French toast bread pudding with huckleberry jam and cream cheese glaze. Preorder online from Eden Hill or Eden Hill Provisions (for pickup January 19).
